Local Color 2006 Exhibits

All exhibits feature local artists in the Fleming Conference Room at the
Foster Art Center.

December - January: Ann Coulter
Ann Coulter has been making large scale (30”x40”) landscape drawings for almost twenty years, “relying”,” she says, “on the midwestern prairie to supply me with infinite possibilities regarding light, atmosphere, and imagery.” Her work has been represented in many group exhibitions, including the Bradley University National Print and Drawing Exhibition and the Western Illinois Folio Press, 1980-2000 Anniversary Exhibition. Although she doesn’t consider herself a “regionalist,” the midwestern character of her work is reminiscent of the scenery one encounters while driving along Illinois blue highways.

February - March: Bradley University BFA Students
The Bradley University BFA Show is a selection of work from 14 students enrolled in the Fine Art program. Students involved are J. Morgan Ferry, Sarah Williamson, John Selburg, Molly Damskey, Nicole Wenger, Aaron Felder, Abigail Peters, Jaime Dobbertin, Charlie Michaels, Zac Zetterberg, Erica Buss, Nate Lucas, Alexandra Schroeder, and Brett Hargesheimer. The work is diverse and experimental, and an excellent representation of the quality of student artwork at Bradley.

April - May: Corrine Smith
A Rock Island resident, Corrine creates “large scale, mixed media abstracts,” says Gabe Johnson, Gallery Store Manager and curator of the Local Color exhibits. “She works with a wide variety of media: watercolors, acrylics, pastels and pencils as well as handmade papers and other unconventional materials. Her art has a dynamic quality showing high contrast and tension.” "Corrine is a very popular artist whose work can be found both at the Fine Art Fair and our Gallery Store. This is a great opportunity to display even more of her remarkable talent.”

June - July: Tracey Frugoli
Frugoli is inspired by light and beauty, and most identifies with the American and French Impressionists. She views the painting process as a humbling endeavor that seeks to reflect and thereby enhance the most noble of our ideals. She has traveled to local, national and international locations to study with master painters as well as to paint the landscape. But, she is also equally comfortable painting both figurative and still life subjects. Frugoli has won many awards including First Place in the 2005 Easton Plein Air Quick Draw and Best Architectural Painting in the main competition in Easton, MD, from awards judge Scott Burdick. She has exhibited throughout the country and was accepted into the prestigious Greenhouse Gallery’s “Salon International 2005” in San Antonio, TX. Her work hangs in numerous private collections.

August - September: Carmen Sanchez-Lorente
I could say my work is silent; only through contemplation I find an internal dialogue. I like to feel my model's essence, and to find a communication with my model's soul. And as a sovereign example of this mystery, I choose, most of the time human representation where each person talks about his/her divinity.
A quiet dialogue with the deepest part of the soul.

October-November: Jim Jenkins
James Jenkins makes paintings of uncommon force and conviction. His collage paintings are informed by the vigorous presence of an individual artistic personality and a rationally charged visual expression. Within the rich tradition of 20th century abstraction and expressionism, each painting is a crystallization of a discrete moment of feeling and perception secured in the course of exploring visible and invisible experience. These works are about the human spirit and the search for meaning and enjoyment within the landscape of our most personal spaces. The act of recording one's thoughts and feelings in a compressed space is a reflection of personal belief in the value of a journal about life.
