Introduction to Letterpress and Relief Printing

Instructor: Peggy West

Department: Printmaking

Have you ever wanted to print your own cards, book covers or posters? This one-day workshop will walk new and novice printers through the mechanics of letterpress printing on our vintage Vandercook printing press. Participants will learn basic shop and safety procedures, choosing and cutting paper, handsetting metal type, using quoins and tools to complete a press "lock up," mixing inks for printing, and hand pulling a complete set of thank you cards. Care and cleaning of the Vandercook press will also be addressed. Completion of this course qualifies participants to schedule open studio printing times in the PAG Print Room. No prior experience necessary.
