Students will learn to use different grades of pencil with an emphasis on detailing. Projects will be simple yet realistic. Learn the importance of shading while creating a realistic effect. We will start off with fruit studies, moving on to a variety of subjects. Occasionally we will explore color pencils and pastels. Students are encouraged to bring sketch books to keep their work together and at the same time track their own progress. All levels welcome.

This class is an introduction to using your DSLR in the most creative mode, Manual. You will learn about, and how to control, your aperture and shutter speed, what the ISO is, how to use the exposure meter, depth of field, the basics of composition and lighting, and begin to unravel the mystery of all those lenses. You will participate in a class photo shoot and critique of images, and have a chance to work with constant and flash lighting systems. This course consists of six 2-hour sessions. Conventional DSLRs and mirrorless cameras are encouraged.

Students will learn beginning drawing techniques, using ink pens to cross hatch while viewing a still life. 

In the first session students will learn the history of cross hatching and practice the technique and start their still life drawing. As the sessions continue, students will gradually progress in shading and begin creating shape and volume to their piece.

In this class you will learn how to hand dye one skein of super wash merino wool yarn. This yarn will not felt so it is wonderful for crochet, knitted or woven projects. We will be using acid dye and heat to create beautiful, rich colors resulting in a unique, one of a kind work of art.

Get on a wheel and learn how to spin a lump of clay into pottery. You will learn the basics of wheel-throwing and make a functional mug, bowl, plate, and/or pet dish. You will also learn about making textures and markings in the surface of the clay. Make sure to wear casual clothes that can get muddy!
