Journeys - David Gregory

Peoria artist David Gregory is a representational painter working in watercolor and oil with an emphasis on landscapes and cityscapes, though he also paints florals and still lifes. This exhibition features paintings of California, Hawaii, and Italy.

Most of David’s painting is done in his home studio, but he enjoys traveling in search of new inspiration. He finds watercolors ideal for doing quick studies, whether on a remote Hawaiian beach or beside a canal in Venice, Italy. A watercolor journal kept during a trip to Italy with his wife, Renee, is on display.

While living in the artists’ colony of Mendocino on the northern California coast, he painted seascapes and rugged cliffs overlooking the Pacific. Colorful autumn vineyards were another favorite motif. His skill at rendering atmospheric lighting effects is especially evident in Hawaiian images of mountains shrouded in mist.

Born in Canton, Illinois, David studied architecture, painting, and printmaking at the University of Illinois. He has created over 4,200 paintings, most of which hang in public and private collections throughout the USA and abroad. David is a signature member of both the Hawaii Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. His work has been juried into numerous national and international exhibitions.
